Finance Officer (part-time)

Kids First seeks to add a part-time Finance Officer to the team. The Finance Officer will work with the Executive Director and Director of Operations to provide budgetary and accounting support to the agency which operates a $1 million dollar budget. The position may be performed remotely with flexible hours.

Kids First is a nonprofit, child-focused conflict resolution center. Kids First helps children through conflict in their families by providing legal representation to kids in high-conflict custody and divorce cases, educational workshops about divorce for children, and mediation for separated parents. Kids First also helps children resolve conflict with their peers through a restorative justice program in Cedar Rapids schools.

POSITION’S PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with Executive Director to create and maintain annual operating budget

  • Prepare project budgets and budget reports for grants

  • Review monthly/annual financial reports and metrics for the Board of Directors

  • Analyze financial data and keep Executive Director abreast of financial trends

  • Provide technical assistance to the Director of Operations with QuickBooks

  • Compile and analyze accounting records and other data to determine the financial resources required to implement new programs

  • Compile the categorization of expenses for accountants as they prepare the Form 990

  • Provide documentation and information as requested by external auditors

  • Implement efficiencies and best practices for improved financial operations, recordkeeping and reporting

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or equivalent

  • CPA preferred

  • Demonstrated experience in financial management, ideally in the nonprofit sector

  • Strong proficiency in Excel and QuickBooks

  • Exemplary organizational and analytical skills

  • Consistent attention to detail

  • Experience with creating and managing multiple budgets

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and sensitive information

SALARY INFORMATION

Kids First has a committed team environment with an egalitarian pay scale where all employees make the same hourly wage of $31.25/hour. Up to 10 hours per week fluctuating with seasonal needs. Ability to work remotely with flexible hours. Availability to consult with Executive Director and Director of Operations during traditional workday hours.
