14 Under 14: Showcasing Tomorrow's Changemakers Today

Kids First Law Center proudly announces the return of its 14 Under 14 awards, celebrating the exceptional leadership of 14 Cedar Rapids students under the age of 14. The 2024 honorees represent 10 Cedar Rapids Community School District schools with students ranging from 10 to 13 years old.

Meet a few of the next generation of heroes:
  • Avery (10), an advocate for equity described as “the voice of her classroom”
  • Devendra (11), an aspiring surgeon who delivers holiday goods to Willis Dady
  • Natalie (12), creator of a Kindness Club that encourage small acts with big impacts
All CRCSD teachers were invited to nominate students who embody the values of good citizenship, problem-solving, empathy, kindness, and perseverance. The 14 honorees tackle challenges with creativity, uplift their communities with compassion, and pave the way for a brighter future.

“Our mission is to make children’s voices heard,” said Jenny Schulz, Kids First’s Executive Director. “This event is an opportunity to encourage and amplify the voices of children who will one day lead our community.”

Join Kids First in celebrating these rising stars at the 14 Under 14 awards ceremony on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at 4 pm – 5 pm at the Cedar Rapids Public Library, Whipple Auditorium. Ceremony attendees will hear uplifting stories about each student leader as the honorees are recognized and awarded.  A cookie reception will immediately follow the awards ceremony. The awards ceremony and reception are both free and open to the public. Kirkwood Community College is this year’s 14 Under 14 presenting sponsor.

The third annual 14 Under 14 awards are hosted by Kids First Law Center, a Cedar Rapids nonprofit in its 20th year, serving over 2,500 children annually in Eastern Iowa.
