Kids First offers educational workshops to school-age children of divorcing parents in Linn and Johnson County. Kids First designed its workshops to help kids understand and cope with their parents’ separation and divorce. The workshops give children a confidential place to talk about their feelings. Eight to ten kids are grouped together by grade level. Workshops are interactive and utilize artwork, games, videos, discussions, and role playing. Kids take a workbook home to spark discussion with their parents.

Workshop goals:

  • Provide youth with a safe and confidential place to discuss their feelings about divorce
  • Let children know they are not alone and the divorce is not their fault
  • Give kids practical skills to handle common divorce scenarios and adjust to family changes
  • Clarify misconceptions and set age-appropriate expectations for the legal process

Registration: To register your child to attend the workshop, please complete this form. The form will be submitted to our office after which we will contact you to finalize the registration. Children must be pre-registered in order to attend a workshop. SMLCC front of bldg
