artDrawing is a way for children to learn about and express themselves. It can be difficult for kids to talk about concerns, anxiety, or fears. It’s sometimes easier to talk about a picture than to discuss a problem. Through art, issues can be verbalized and resolved in a non-threatening way.

Kids First offers art workshops for children of separated families. The workshop leader suggests an art project and–after creating pictures on that theme–the kids share their drawings and talk about them with the group.

The workshops are led by a therapist with over 30 years of art therapy experience. Materials are provided and the workshops are free!

Children in grades 3-6 are welcome to attend our 2016 workshop series on Thursdays, October 20 – Nov. 10, from 4:30-5:30 pm each day. The same group of kids attends all 4 sessions together.

Space is limited and children must be registered in advance. Contact Kandy at Kids First, 319-739-5424 or kandy@kidsfirstiowa.org to register.

Classes are held at Kids First in the Sister Mary Lawrence Community Center, 420 6th St. SE, Cedar Rapids.
